This project was born from an inability to afford new pieces of metal and a memory from my elementary school years. During recess I walked the schoolyard, stuffing my overalls with little things found on the ground. I felt badly for these unwanted items, seeing them as misfits that needed tending. This in mind, I decided to use free scrap metal pieces - they didn’t look like much, but each was unique and just needed to become part of something meaningful. This piece became a story of acceptance - the ability of diverse parts to unite as one functioning unit.
